 http://www.guardian.co.uk/uklatest/story/0,,-61658...

Asked by Sky News whether there should be any restrictions on the number of people included in the database, Mr Blair - who has previously provided a sample of his own DNA voluntarily - said: "The number on the database should be the maximum number you can get."

The national DNA database has expanded by around a third to 3.6 million profiles since the Criminal Justice Act 2003, which allowed police to take and keep DNA samples from all people arrested for any imprisonable offence - regardless of whether they are eventually convicted.

Iraqis Better Off Under Saddam, Says Former Weapons Inspector
 http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2006/10/25/iraq-fail...

The war in Iraq is a "pure failure" that has left Iraqis in a worse state than when they lived under Saddam Hussein, former United Nations chief weapons inspector Hans Blix said in comments published Wednesday.
Don't forget that Blix had also previously criticised what he called the over-interpretation of intelligence regarding Iraq's WMD's.

Some Experts Think Experimenting With Living, Disabled Patients Is Okay
 http://www.lifenews.com/bio1809.html

..some of our most prominent bioethical and philosophical thinkers have published articles in the world's most respected medical and bioethical journals proposing that unconscious patients (those diagnosed as in a persistent vegetative state) be used both as vital organ donors and the subjects of human medical experimentation.
I guess it all boils down to your definition of alive. Hay, if I was totally braindead with no chance of recovery then I'm essentially just a meat robot capable of maintaining a constant internal environment. That's not what a human being is, it's what a human body does. So, I wouldn't see much difference between choosing to donate a dead body to science and donating a living but braindead one; they're both just as useless to the previous occupant ;)

 http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2089-24156...

Defence chiefs have come to the conclusion that the Iraqis will never be ready to let American forces leave without a “forcing mechanism” that would set target dates area-by-area for US troop withdrawals.
This seems to be talking about phased withdrawal.

Whoever thought Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad would tone down his messages in the midst of western warnings was wrong.

Ahmadinejad told a crowd of thousands gathered at a pro-Palestinian rally in the capital Tehran Friday that “Israel no longer has a reason to exist, and will soon disappear. The Zionist regime, thank God, has lost all reason to exist”.

The World Is Not Running Out Of Oil

"The most common question I get is, 'When are we going to run out of oil.' The correct response is, 'Never,'" said Eric Cheney. "It might be a heck of a lot more expensive than it is now, but there will always be some oil available at a price, perhaps $10 to $100 a gallon."
