A paper titled "The Lucifer Project" has recently emerged which claims that NASA is very likely to deliberately direct the Cassini space probe into Saturn's dense atmosphere where it will destruct. This is to take place soon after the termination of Cassini's four year monitoring mission in June 2008 when Cassini is in a polar orbit of Saturn. The paper's author contends this will be a secret effort to use the Cassini's plutonium fuel rods as a fission device to generate a runaway nuclear fusion process on Saturn that would trigger the emergence of a new sun. The new sun would enable the moons of Saturn to be heated possibly making them suitable for colonization and other uses by humanity.
The atmospheric greenhouse effect, an idea that authors trace back to the traditional works of Fourier 1824, Tyndall 1861, and Arrhenius 1896, and which is still supported in global climatology, essentially describes a fictitious mechanism, in which a planetary atmosphere acts as a heat pump driven by an environment that is radiatively interacting with but radiatively equilibrated to the atmospheric system. According to the second law of thermodynamics such a planetary machine can never exist. Nevertheless, in almost all texts of global climatology and in a widespread secondary literature it is taken for granted that such mechanism is real and stands on a firm scientific foundation. In this paper the popular conjecture is analyzed and the underlying physical principles are clarified.

An 8-million-year-old bacterium that was extracted from the oldest known ice on Earth is now growing in a laboratory, claim researchers.
If confirmed, this means ancient bacteria and viruses will come back to life as ice melts due to global warming. This is nothing to worry about, say experts, because the process has been going on for billions of years and the bugs are unlikely to cause human disease.
In a paper published in the latest issue of the Physical Review journal, the scientist offers a theoretical model, based on mathematical equations describing conditions that, if established, could help lead to the development of a time machine of sorts. But rather than building an actual device, Ori explains that the machine is space-time itself.
Useful when you're me and you boot into Ubuntu and your sound suddenly isn't working.
Specifically, this alsamixer section worked for me, since it turns out that the master volume control had been muted by some unknown force of nature.
All human bodies have numerous flaws which can be eliminated by geneticly modifying the zygote. Those flaws exist because their elimination was and is not necessary for the survival of the human species. However, their elimination would greatly increase the efficiency of our actions, and thus both our physical prosperity and our quality of life.
