Hamas Acted On A Very Real Fear Of A US-Sponsored Coup
 http://www.guardian.co.uk/israel/Story/0,,2108926,...

Was Hamas's seizure of Fatah security offices in Gaza unprovoked, or a pre-emptive strike to forestall a coup by Fatah?

The fundamental cause is, of course, well known. Israel, aided by the US, was not prepared to accept Hamas's victory in last year's Palestinian elections. Backed by a supine EU, the two governments decided to boycott their new Palestinian counterparts politically and punish Palestinian voters by blocking economic aid [in order to] turn voters against Hamas

Mars: A Terraforming Target For The 21st Century
 http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/070623_mars_...

Mars will be transformed into a shirt-sleeve, habitable world for humanity before century's end, made livable by thawing out the coldish climes of the red planet and altering its now carbon dioxide-rich atmosphere.

Yasmin Alibhai-Brown: We Must Never Forget The Damage Blair Has Done
 http://comment.independent.co.uk/columnists_a_l/ya...

Blair presents himself as a noble, steadfast leader, too good for his people and the feral press, a tragic Christian figure whose one unpopular decision wiped away the extraordinary record he leaves which one day we will truly appreciate. He stoops to conquer our misgivings and cynicism. Don't let him.

Again, needs a 'Comment' tag. Interesting article but isn't as comprehensive a deconstruction of Blair's premiership as I'd like to post -- what I'm really after is one article describing all the good stuff and another describing all the bad, linked side-by-side for reference.

Wall Street, Iraq And The Declining Dollar
 http://www.aljazeera.com/news/newsfull.php?newid=1...

No matter how the Iraq War ends, it is clear that the United States is incapable of militarily securing territory against the wishes of a hostile population. And the Iraq War is at the heart of two alarming trends that are likely to have a negative impact on America's position in the world: The demand for oil is rising while the supply is declining, and the demand for the U.S. dollar is declining while the supply of dollars is rising.

The Internet Is A Denial Of Service Attack On Your Brain
 http://radio.weblogs.com/0103955/categories/stupid...

"We found that mental performance, the capability of the brain, was also reduced. Workers cannot think as well when they are worrying about e-mail or voice mails. It effectively reduces their IQ".

The Internet is in effect a denial of service attack on our brains. Constantly hit with new useless information we literally can't pay attention to other parts of our life. The internet may not have the same kick as cocaine, but the internet makes up for its lack of single dose potency by having an infinite, constant, and varied supply.

US Destroying Iraq With Impunity
 http://pressesc.com/01182232333_iraq_report_gpf

The United States and its allies are killing Iraqi civilians, stealing Iraq's oil and destroying the nation's heritage with total impunity, according to a report released jointly today by 30 NGOs which concluded that The US Coalition is the principal cause of Iraq’s current ills.

The 117-page War and Occupation in Iraq reveals that the US has established broad legal immunity in Iraq for its military forces, for private security personnel, for foreign military and civilian contractors, and even for the oil companies doing business with Iraq and that no matter what crimes the Coalition commits, Iraqis now or in the future face legal barriers if they seek accountability.

BBC Report Finds Bias Within Corporation
 http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/ne...

The BBC has failed to promote proper debate on major political issues because of the inherent liberal culture of its staff, a report commissioned by the corporation has concluded.

The report claims that coverage of single-issue political causes, such as climate change and poverty, can be biased - and is particularly critical of Live 8 coverage, which it says amounted to endorsement.

It warns that celebrities must not be pandered to and allowed to hijack the BBC schedule.

Britain Feared US Would 'Nuke' Afghanistan: Ex-Diplomat
 http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=0706180204...

Britain joined the United States' invasion to oust the Taliban in 2001 because it feared America would "nuke the shit" out of Afghanistan, the former British ambassador to Washington reportedly told a television documentary.

Christopher Meyer said that fear explained why Prime Minister Tony Blair chose to stand with US President George W. Bush in his decision to invade Afghanistan in the immediate aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks -- to temper his aggressive battle plans.

Blair Knew US Had No Post-War Plan For Iraq
 http://observer.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/story/0,,21...

Tony Blair agreed to commit British troops to battle in Iraq in the full knowledge that Washington had failed to make adequate preparations for the postwar reconstruction of the country.

He also agreed to commit troops to the conflict even though President George Bush had personally said Britain could help 'some other way'.
